Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering Courses
Hello all,
Well honestly, it is long overdue that I post this so this year I managed to get hold of these documents as last year I was some how busy and misplaced them.
Since the Department changed up the requirements to satisfy the needs of the Accreditation Board this is the new format of the courses (since last academic year 2010/11) for both Civil Engineering and Civil with Environmental Engineering.
If you didn’t know this before, the major differences in the two are:
- The year 3 courses required for Civil Engineering is Structural Design II (CVNG3003) while those opting for Civil with Environmental Engineering are required to do Design of Environmental Systems (CVNG3016) instead.
- In year 3, Semester 2, the options to choose from are centered around Environmental Engineering for those willing to pursue Civil with Environmental Engineering.
I have attached below the two documents which outline the courses necessary for each degree.
Civil with Environmental Engineering
Please note that this year we are being visited by the Accreditation Board and hence if you are trailing any course(s) you may be in some “hot waters.” You are advised to speak to the Secretary or the Head of the Department for more information regarding this. We are being told that it is possible if the Department finds out you are doing so, they can give you a failing grade for the said course(s).
Good luck to all
God Bless.
Regards.

Academic Advising and Other Things to Note
Hello all,
It’s that time again.
I hope you all have had a wonderful vacation as it is now drawing to a close.
There are a few things to note.
First of all, mysta is will be closed this year and UWI has launched a new portal for us students as well as our emails. This new link is my.uwi.edu.
I personally don’t mind it although at times getting access to banner takes LONG and I had to still login there as well. I think they should have made it mandatory to change your password because, you guessed it, its your DOB. Ok, enough of me ranting.
Secondly, the Timetables as far as I know are up as well over here or here(requires login) as usual, for 2011/12. I am yet to check out how this semester is shaping up but I wouldn’t doubt it would resemble last years configuration.
Thirdly, dates for Academic Advising were posted on UWI’s Facebook page.
As you can see, us, continuing students are as follows:
DATE: Wednesday August 24, 2011
TIME: 1.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.
VENUE: Civil Engineering Room 10, 2nd Floor, Block 2
For those of us that need new ID Cards, this will be as follows:
DATE: Monday August 29, 2011
TIME: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
VENUE: JFK Lecture Theatre
Orientation Programme is as follows:
YEAR 2 STUDENTS
DATE: Thursday September 1, 2011
TIME: 09.00 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.
VENUE: Room 101, Block 1
YEAR 3 STUDENTS
DATE: Friday September 2, 2011
TIME: 09.00 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.
VENUE: Room 101, Block 1
Departmental Activities
TIME: 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.
VENUE: Civil Engineering Room 10, 2nd Floor, Block 2
Lastly, the Academic Calendar isn’t updated to the new 2011/12 as yet but I believe it is inside of the handbook. Semester 1′s first teaching date is set for the 5th September 2011.
All the best and good luck with this Semester and all the rest.
God Bless.
Regards.
