UWI Graduation Details and Signing Up

Hello all.

I thought I wouldn’t have to post here again but I realize that I need to inform you all about Graduation. Apparently if you are or aren’t attending you must sign up on the UWI website.

Now there is a specific UWI website dedicated to Graduation. It can be found here.

To sign up, simply go to the site and click the “click here to sign up” link on the right hand side and follow the instructions. Note if you are not attending you still have to leave the relevant information as to whether you will be collecting your certificate or having it mailed to you.
Of course if you are attending, it will also provide you with a host of information about gown rentals etc.

Don’t forget, you must sign up to confirm your attendance and/or arrangements.

I hope those of you who have graduated are busy with your lives in some way or the other and to those still soldiering on, I pray you all finish soon.

Hello all.

Let me take this opportunity to congratulate all of those who received results yesterday and passed. I’m sure you are excited for October and may have started the job hunt, etc.

I must say it has been an experience filled with lots of ups and downs but thankfully, we made it! One chapter of our lives is closing and another opening. I know there are some of you who are reading this who have qualified already, or in my case, just received results or some who have a few more courses to finish. Just remember this is not the end. Your life has just started in most cases. As someone once told me, “You will never ever step out of the University of Life”. So continue working hard doing what you do and always remember to be the best you can be, despite whatever may or may not come your way. Things do get tough sometimes, may be it is a chance to check within ourselves if there are changes to be made.

Enough of all that, I’d like to thank God firstly and also everyone, the Head of the Department, Lecturers, Administration, fellow classmates and all those who shun some light in our lives thus far. Each of you know who was instrumental in your life. Do make sure to show them some gratitude. I know certainly that we will always remember that one special person who touched all of our lives and that is Ms. Shara Khabay whom I’m sure most of us are still shocked of her passing. She will always be in our hearts and we should never forget her in our prayers. I can say personally that without her help I don’t know what I would have done. May God bless her, have mercy on her and forgive her for any shortcomings she had (if any!).

To those that still have a course or two to finish, just hold strong. We all have our challenges. No one is perfect. Just try your best in every given situation and don’t lose hope. I can say I was in your situation for a while and it can be tough but stay strong, stay focused and pray hard!

Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering Courses

Well honestly, it is long overdue that I post this so this year I managed to get hold of these documents as last year I was some how busy and misplaced them.

Since the Department changed up the requirements to satisfy the needs of the Accreditation Board this is the new format of the courses (since last academic year 2010/11) for both Civil Engineering and Civil with Environmental Engineering.
If you didn’t know this before, the major differences in the two are:

1. The year 3 courses required for Civil Engineering is Structural Design II (CVNG3003) while those opting for Civil with Environmental Engineering are required to do Design of Environmental Systems (CVNG3016) instead.
2. In year 3, Semester 2, the options to choose from are centered around Environmental Engineering for those willing to pursue Civil with Environmental Engineering.

I have attached below the two documents which outline the courses necessary for each degree.

Please note that this year we are being visited by the Accreditation Board and hence if you are trailing any course(s) you may be in some “hot waters.” You are advised to speak to the Secretary or the Head of the Department for more information regarding this. We are being told that it is possible if the Department finds out you are doing so, they can give you a failing grade for the said course(s).
